Appenzell Mountain Dog (Bläss)

Back to the overview

Overview

The Appenzeller Sennenhund was originally bred as an all-round farm dog: In his Swiss homeland, he conscientiously herded the cattle, attentively guarded the farm and even pulled many a cart. Today, Appenzellers are sometimes kept purely as family dogs. But they have not lost their physical and mental strength, which has always distinguished them as valuable working dogs.

He is weather hardy, intelligent and alert - making him a good guard dog and also suitable as an avalanche dog. In recent times, Appenzeller Mountain Dogs are also increasingly trained and used with great success as guide dogs for the blind.

Fun Fact: The special size 51cm of the wide Appenzeller collar is the standard size of a "Bläss".
