Production of the Appenzeller belt

The Sennen or Appenzell belt ("Chüeligurt") is not part of the actual Alpine dairyman's costume. It is a further development from the Sennensattlerei. The brass fittings are partly the same as for the braces.

Almost every Sennensattler tells his own story about the origin. It is said that in the 1920s and 1930s the belts were decorated with upholstery nails and only later were ornaments added. Once a countess came to Appenzell and she wanted a belt for herself that resembled the dog collars.
